The Election Commission (EC) has announced that by-elections to the Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 constituencies will be held before 14 April.
Sources at the EC confirmed the information on Sunday (22 February).
In the 13th National Parliamentary elections held on 12 February, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman was elected from Bogura-6. As he also won the Dhaka-17 seat, he submitted his resignation from Bogura-6 to the commission on 16 February, leaving the seat vacant from that date.
Meanwhile, Nuruzzaman Badal, the Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated candidate for Sherpur-3 (Sreebardi–Jhenaigati), passed away due to kidney-related complications in hospital at around 3:00am on 3 February.
Under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), the EC has postponed the parliamentary election in the constituency due to the death of a valid candidate.
