The first cabinet meeting under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman began this afternoon at the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat.
The meeting started at 3:00pm, sources at the Prime Minister’s Office said.
As prime minister, Tarique visited the Secretariat for the first time today. For over a decade, almost all cabinet and secretaries’ meetings were held at the Prime Minister’s Office.
After the cabinet meeting, a secretaries’ meeting was scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.
Through these engagements, the new prime minister formally began work at his designated office in the Secretariat for the first time.
No special agenda has been reported for either meeting. Officials said the discussions were likely to be largely introductory, and that the head of government may provide guidance based on his party’s election manifesto.
The prime minister, ministers and state ministers of the new government took oath yesterday afternoon. Later at night, the Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification allocating portfolios.
