Five Bangladeshis, including four from the same family, were killed in a road crash in Saudi Arabia early Monday after performing the Holy Omrah, relatives confirmed.
The tragic incident occurred in Saudi town of Abha around 3am while they were returning to their temporary residence from Jeddah, said Baharul Alam, elder brother of Mizan, who was killed in the accident.
Lakshmipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Farashid Bin Enam told reporters that he had heard of the road crash that killed people from his district, and pledged all possible assistance to return the bodies.
The victims include: Mizanur Rahman Mizan, 40, his wife Farzana Akter Sumy, 30, their eldest daughter Meher Afroz, 13, youngest daughter Subha Akter, 18-month-old, and car driver Md Jilani Babar, 30.
The couple’s other daughter Faiza Akter, 11, suffered critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jeddah.
Mizan hailed from Nalchara village, Bhatara union, Ramganj upazila in Lakshmipur. His father was Shahid Ullah. The deceased driver hailed from Bishnupur village from the same union.
On 3 February, Mizan went to Saudi Arabia with his daughter and three daughters to perform Umrah.
