Miscreants set fire to a polling booth set up at a government primary school in Netrakona Sadar upazila early today.
The incident occurred between 1:30am and 2:30am at Nurpur Sidhurpur Government Primary School, which has been designated as a polling centre, said Asma Benta Rafiq, assistant returning officer and also upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Netrakona Sadar.
She said the miscreants broke a rear window of the building and set fire inside the booth using a sack and petrol. Two benches were burned, while a ceiling fan and a light were damaged in the blaze, the UNO added.
The affected booth will be prepared for voting by today, the UNO added.
Local residents noticed the fire and managed to bring it under control before it could spread further. The police, who were informed immediately, visited the site later that night.
The polling centre has a total of seven booths, four of which are located in the building where the fire incident occurred.
