BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman said on Wednesday that Faridpur will be elevated to divisional status if the party secures power through the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.

“If the BNP forms the government and the creation of a Faridpur division benefits the people and accelerates development, Faridpur will be made a division,” he said while addressing an election rally at the Government Rajendra College ground in the district this afternoon.

After concluding the rally in Barishal, Tarique arrived at the Faridpur stadium by helicopter around 2:40pm. He then joined the rally around 3pm.

The BNP chief said the party believes all state power belongs to the people, and it is from this conviction that it seeks the responsibility of running the state.

At the rally, he also pledged to modernise agricultural management in the region if the party receives a public mandate in the election.

Tarique said the greater Faridpur is an agriculture-based region, with the jute industry being one of its key sectors. “If elected, the BNP plans to boost foreign currency earnings by exporting jute from the region.”

Outlining plans for modern agricultural management in Faridpur, he said the BNP wants to build a Padma barrage to resolve water scarcity here during the dry season.

Speaking on employment, the BNP chairman said the party aims to develop both agriculture and industry so that local people can secure jobs and live with dignity.
