Two people were killed when a truck plunged into a river amid dense fog on Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway at Garaganj in Shailakupa upazila of Jhenaidah district early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Sohel Sheikh, 27, truck driver and son of Abul Kalam Sheikh and his assistant Mubarak Hossain, 20, son of Zafor Mia of Gazamanikunda village in Sadar upazila of Pabna district.

The accident occurred around 1 am over Borodah Old Bridge when the goods-laden truck from Jashore plunged into the river after breaking through the railing of the bridge as its drive lost control over steering due to dense fog, leaving two killed on the spot, said Assistant director of Jahore Fire Service and Civil Defense, Abdus Salam.

On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.
