Over the past five years, the amount of cash and movable assets of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has increased significantly.
An analysis of the affidavit submitted for the 13th National Parliamentary Election shows that over time, his personal assets, bank savings, and the value of vehicles have increased steadily.
In the upcoming election, GM Quader will contest as the Jatiya Party candidate from the Rangpur-3 constituency (Rangpur Sadar and parts of the city corporation). He was elected as a member of parliament from the same constituency in the controversial 12th National Election.
In the affidavit, Quader mentioned his profession as a politician and chairman of Jatiya Party. His wife Sharifa Quader's profession has been stated as a singer and businessperson.
According to the latest affidavit, the amount of cash in Quader's possession stands at Tk 60,32,405. During the 12th National Election, his cash amount was Tk 49,88,253. In the 11th National Election, his cash amounted to only Tk 14,47,973. In other words, in less than a decade, his cash holdings have increased more than fourfold.
However, a slightly different picture emerges in the case of his wife. Two years ago, Sharifa's cash amounted to Tk 59,59,563, which has now decreased to Tk 48,90,938. Earlier, in the 11th National Election, her cash amount was Tk 27,64,701.
According to the affidavit, the current value of the vehicle used by Quader is Tk 84,98,475. His wife owns a vehicle worth Tk 80 lakh. Notably, the value of the vehicles mentioned in the affidavit two years ago has been shown as the same in the affidavit submitted this time.
The document shows that although Quader does not possess any agricultural land, he and his wife own multiple houses in Lalmonirhat and Dhaka. The current value of the houses owned by Quader is Tk 1,59,50,000, while the value of the house owned by his wife in Dhaka is Tk 70 lakh. Altogether, the market value of their immovable properties exceeds Tk 2 crore.
Quader has savings certificates or fixed deposits worth Tk 40 lakh in his name, while his wife has Tk 11,83,368 in her name. According to the affidavit, the total value of his movable assets is Tk 1.95 crore, and the value of his wife's movable assets is Tk 1.72 crore.
As the leader of the opposition in the national parliament, he earned Tk 2,10,000 per year as allowance. In addition, income from shares, savings certificates, and bank deposits has been shown as Tk 1,90,000 for Quader and Tk 79,741 for his wife. His wife's annual income from business has been shown as Tk 6 lakh.
The affidavit mentions that Quader currently has 12 criminal cases filed against him, which are under investigation. In addition, his personal loan amount stands at Tk 12 lakh.
GM Quader has contested six parliamentary elections, losing once. He won the elections held in 1996, 2008, and 2018 from the Lalmonirhat-3 constituency. However, he was defeated in the 2014 election from that seat. He was also elected as a member of parliament from the Rangpur-3 constituency in 2001 and 2024.
Following the death of Jatiya Party founder and former president HM Ershad, GM Quader has been serving as the chairman of the party.
