In his Victory Day address on December 16, 2025, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus emphasized that the government has given the highest priority to the serious illness of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and is closely monitoring her condition. He described her as an integral part of Bangladesh’s history and said her prolonged sickness is a matter of concern for the entire nation.

Zia, a three-time prime minister and key political figure, has been hospitalized at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka for several weeks, receiving intensive care. Earlier reports indicate her condition remains critical, with medical specialists providing round-the-clock attention.

The interim government has already declared Khaleda Zia a Very Very Important Person (VVIP), a status aimed at ensuring her full entitlement to state support and security while she continues treatment.

Earlier this month, Chief Adviser Yunus personally visited her in the hospital to check on her health and was briefed by her doctors about her care plan. He reaffirmed that the government will provide all necessary assistance to her and respect her family’s wishes regarding her treatment.

In his Victory Day speech, Yunus also urged national unity and highlighted ongoing efforts to protect democratic values and build a peaceful future for Bangladesh.
