A 12-member investigation team led by International Criminal Tribunal Prosecutor Barrister Moinul Karim has come to Begum Rokeya University to investigate the allegations of killing of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayed by the police during the anti-discrimination student movement on Monday.
The team started visiting the site including Begum Rokeya University and taking the testimony of witnesses.
Investigation team members came to Shaheed Abu Sayed square in front of Begum Rokeya University at 9:00 am. They visited the place where Abu Saeed was shot dead by the police on July 16.
At that time, the eyewitness university students Abrar Shamim and Arman Hossain gave the details of the incident to the investigation team.
After the visit, ICT Prosecutor Barrister SM Moinul Karim said that an investigation is being conducted on those who were martyred in the anti-discrimination movement in Rangpur Division including Begum Rokeya University student Shaheed Abu Sayed.
The incident of martyr Abu Sayed's death created a stir across the country and even globally. That's why we prioritized this murder and stared investigation after receiving the complaint in the tribunal a week ago. As part of that, overall activities are being carried out including visiting the scene where Abu Saeed was killed, collecting information, taking the statements of eyewitnesses who were present during the incident.
Prosecutor said, on the instructions of the chief prosecutor, we have nine investigators and three security officers and 12 people are investigating. The killing of Abu Saeed is being looked at seriously. We will issue arrest warrants against those involved in the murder only after confirmation.
Prosecutor again said that a case has been filed under the Penal Code Act regarding the murder of Abu Saeed. Even so, the International Criminal Tribunal Act does not prohibit the prosecution. Action will be taken as soon as possible.
The investigation team will take statements by talking to university Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shaukat ali, eyewitnesses and others.
