Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has described the verdict against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina as a "landmark judgement" that will stand as a milestone for justice and the rule of law in Bangladesh.
"In our view, this verdict has been delivered in the interest of fulfilling responsibilities to the martyrs, the country, its people, democracy, the Constitution, rule of law, and future generations," he told journalists in an immediate reaction after the verdict.
He added, "The verdict will bring a sense of relief. It carries a message for the future. We hope it will remain a milestone for justice and the rule of law in Bangladesh."
The attorney general noted that the court had issued directives to provide compensation to the families of the martyrs and to those who were injured.
Responding to a question about banning the Awami League, Asaduzzaman clarified that the case did not involve any issue related to the party's ban, and therefore, the court made no observation on the matter.
