A case has been filed against three people over the murder of Jagannath University student and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal convening committee member Md Jobayed Hossain.
The accused include Jobayed's student Barjis Shabnam Barsha (19) and her boyfriend Md Mahir Rahman (19), Fardeen Ahmed Aylan (20), and four to five unidentified individuals.
Jobayed’s brother, Enayet Hossain Saikat, filed the case at Bongshal Police Station on Tuesday morning.
According to the case statement, Jobayed used to tutor alongside his university studies. On the afternoon of 19 October, around 4:30pm, Jobayed went to Roushan Villa, Nur Box Lane, under Bongshal Police Station, to teach his student Barsha.
On the same day, at around 5:48pm, Barsha messaged Jobayed’s university junior, Saikat, via Messenger, saying, “Jobayed sir has been killed. Someone has murdered him.”
Later, around 7pm that evening, Jagannath University student Kamrul Hasan informed the complainant, Enayet, about the incident over the phone. Enayet, along with his brother-in-law, Sharif Mohammad, rushed to the scene on a motorcycle and reached Roushan Villa around 8:30pm.
Upon arriving, Saikat, accompanied by his acquaintance Advocate Ishtiaq Hossain Jipu, went upstairs from the ground floor and noticed bloodstains on the stairs and walls. When they were taken to the staircase on the east side of the third floor, they found Jobayed’s body lying face down in a pool of blood.
During the inquest, a sharp weapon wound was found on the right side of his neck. Based on information gathered from witnesses at the scene and CCTV footage from nearby areas, it was confirmed that the named accused and several unidentified individuals had premeditatedly killed Jobayed by slashing the right side of his neck with a sharp weapon.
The complainant, Enayet Hossain Saikat, said, We have named those who are the actual accused. We want no innocent person to be punished and real perpetrators to be brought to justice.
