Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has offered an unconditional apology for all past mistakes made by the party.
The Jamaat leader made the statement during a meeting with journalists in New York, USA on Wednesday (22 October).
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “We sincerely apologize to anyone who has suffered because of our actions—whether it is the entire nation or an individual. We have no indecision in seeking apology.”
He added, “I have never made such a statement before, nor have any of my colleagues. Even our senior leaders never claimed that we are above mistakes. If any party claims to be above mistakes, the nation will not accept it. So why should it accept us?”
The Jamaat leader also expressed gratitude to those who have helped correct both the known and unknown mistakes committed by the party.
During the discussion, he demanded a referendum on issues such as Proportional Representation (PR) ahead of the national parliamentary elections.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman assured that there would be no uncertainty regarding elections before Ramadan in February. He also emphasised that if Jamaat comes to power, minorities will be able to live freely under their constitutional rights.
While talking about the relations with neighbouring India, he said that Jamaat-e-Islami seeks an equal and balanced relationship with the country.
