A 19-year-old youth raped a 10-year-old flower-seller under the Shahbagh Metro Rail Station in Dhaka last night.
The victim, a homeless child, was admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Pedestrians caught the youth, Raihan, 19, and handed him over to police.
Mobarak, another homeless child, at the hospital said the victim sells garlands on the streets in Shahbagh area.
"Many people, including me, gathered under the metro station after hearing the screams of the child and found her in bloodied state under the stairs of the station.
On information, police rescued the girl from and took her to hospital, said Md Tarekul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Ramna Police Station.
The alleged rapist is a drug addict and used to live on the street, he said.
Police are trying to find the family of the girl, the OC said.
