Forcibly cutting elderly man’s hair 'inhumane and unlawful': ASK

Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) has voiced grave concern over a recent incident, video of which is being circulated on social media -- showing several individuals forcibly cutting the matted, long hair of an elderly man in public.

The rights organisation condemned the act as "inhumane, unlawful, and a blatant violation of constitutional and human rights".

In a statement today, ASK said such behaviour not only infringes upon fundamental rights and personal liberty but also constitutes a direct assault on their dignity.

The organisation cited articles 31, 32, and 35 of the Bangladesh constitution, which guarantee the right to a dignified life under the law, protection of life and personal liberty, and prohibit cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment.

"This incident is not just a breach of individual rights -- it creates an atmosphere of fear, insecurity, and social instability," ASK said in the statement.

The organisation urged the authorities to swiftly identify and take legal action against those responsible. It also called on the state to ensure that no citizen is subjected to such humiliation or unlawful treatment in the future.

In the video, an elderly fakir (mystic) is seen being chased by three men wearing grey vests, who forcibly cut his long, matted hair. The man breaks down in tears, pleading "Allah, Allah dehis tui", begging them not to proceed, but they refuse to listen. By the end, his head is shaved and he collapses.
