The Ministry of Commerce has granted conditional approval to 37 firms to export hilsa to India ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja festival.
The decision was disclosed in a notification signed on Tuesday (16 September) by SHM Magfurul Hasan Abbasi, Deputy Secretary of the Export-2 Wing of the Ministry.
According to the circular, approval has been given for the export of 1,200 metric tonnes of hilsa by the 37 firms, with the export window set between 16 September and 5 October.
The ministry, however, attached several conditions to the export. Exporters must comply with the provisions of the Export Policy 2024–27, while customs authorities will carry out proper inspections of all consignments.
In addition, applications for future approval must be accompanied by documentation on the actual quantities exported against previously approved quotas.
Exporters are prohibited from exceeding the approved quantity. Customs officials will verify all consignments in the ASYCUDA World System to ensure that no shipments surpass the permitted limit.
The approval is non-transferable, and authorised exporters may not subcontract the export. The government also reserves the right to revoke the permission at any time, if deemed necessary.
