Ahead of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Hall Union elections, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan has delivered a special message to students.
In a video message released on the university’s official Facebook page on Monday afternoon at 3:45 PM, he urged students to come to polling centres and vote without fear.
The Vice-Chancellor said, “You have eagerly awaited the DUCSU election. It aligns with the fundamental values of public uprising. This event is organised to give institutional form to democratic aspirations and to create a collective voice against injustice. You will come to vote without fear, and we are waiting for you.”
He informed us that after nearly 11 months of preparation, the university has arranged voting for approximately 40,000 voters across eight polling centres. To ensure transparency, CCTV cameras will be in place, along with a three-tiered security system and sufficient polling officers. Additionally, the vote-counting process will be made publicly visible through television cameras.
Addressing the candidates, the Vice-Chancellor said, “Some will win, some will lose, but both sides play an important role. Each candidate contributes to activating a democratic institution. People across the country are watching us, and we carry their good wishes. A fair election will set a strong example for both DU and the nation.”
He also highlighted special security measures for female students, assuring that they can come to the polling centres without fear. “The entire country trusts them, and they will honour that trust,” he added.
Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan further emphasised, “This election is not just a process; it is a historic step toward institutionalising democracy. With mutual cooperation and trust, we have overcome many challenges, and we believe we will complete the remaining path comfortably.”
Voting will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, September 9, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The results of the long-awaited DUCSU and Hall Union elections will be announced four hours after voting concludes.
