Dhaka stocks rise in early trade as market rebounds

Indices at the Dhaka Stock Exchange rose in the morning trade today, recovering from the losses of the previous session.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of the premier bourse, increased 29.75 points, or 0.52 percent, to 5,644.03 by 11:52 am.

The mood was similarly positive across the board: the Shariah-compliant DSES inched up 0.23 percent to 1,232.93, while the blue-chip DS30 went up 0.40 percent to 2,191.57.

Turnover, an indicator of investor activity, reached Tk 678.51 crore at the time.

Market breadth was positive, with 257 issues advancing against 93 declining and 45 holding steady.

Among the notable moves, Rupali Life Insurance Company shot up 9 percent to top the gainers' list, while Shyampur Sugar Mills slid 5 percent, posting the worst fall of the session so far.
