RU JCD expels leader for life over abusive remarks on female students

Rajshahi University (RU) Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal today expelled AR Milon Khan, vice-president of Shah Makhdum Hall unit, for life after he allegedly posted offensive comments on social media targeting 91 women students of July 36 Hall.

The decision was announced through a press release issued this morning by Nafiu Islam Jibon, office secretary of RU Chhatra Dal.

According to the press release, Milon in a personal Facebook post had made offensive remarks about the Chhatra Dal vice-president and a student, Jannatul Naima Tuhin, who had criticised the July 36 Hall provost for summoning 91 women students without cause.

On September 2, Milon claimed his Facebook account had been hacked.

Following the incident, the organisation suspended his post and formed a two-member probe committee to verify the allegations. The committee members are senior vice-president Shakilur Rahman Sohag and senior joint general secretary Shafiqul Islam Shafik.

Investigators said Milon failed to provide a satisfactory explanation despite repeated attempts to contact him and later switched off his phone.

"The findings prove that he made the remarks intentionally," the statement said.

RU Chhatra Dal expelled him from all organisational posts, including his primary membership, and instructed leaders and activists not to maintain any political contact with him.

The statement also urged the RU authorities to take appropriate legal action against Milon under the university's existing laws and disciplinary code.

A written complaint has already been filed with Motihar Police Station by Chhatra Dal leaders, Officer-in-Charge Abdul Malek confirmed to reporter adding that a case is under process.

Meanwhile, students of July 36 Hall staged a protest last night demanding Milon's permanent expulsion from the university, a public apology, and the formation of an effective cyberbullying prevention cell.
