Sreemangal police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related activities, Officer-in-Charge Sarkar Abdullah Al Mamun said at a meeting with local journalists.
The meeting was held at Sreemangal Police Station around 8:30pm on Friday, (August 7), to discuss drug control, public safety and the overall law and order situation in the upazila.
The OC said drug prevention could not be ensured by police alone and called for coordinated efforts involving families, educational institutions, local representatives, the media and the community.
“Law enforcement agencies will play a strict role in the public interest, while cooperation from journalists is essential for the success of anti-drug activities,” he said.
Journalists raised issues concerning crime control, anti-drug operations and public safety and stressed the need for regular communication between police and the media.
Participants said greater public awareness and responsible media reporting, alongside effective police action, were necessary to improve the law and order situation in Sreemangal.
