The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) has taken prompt initiatives to repair the damaged sections of the Joypurhat–Hili regional highway, aiming to make the road fully usable and durable. Although a portion of the road was damaged due to heavy rainfall, repair work began immediately through the proactive efforts of the RHD and the responsible role played by the contracting firm.
According to the Roads and Highways Department, a major renovation and carpeting project on the 19-kilometre Joypurhat–Hili road was completed in April this year at a cost of Tk 2.69 crore. However, recent heavy rainfall damaged the carpeting along an approximately four-kilometre stretch between Pachur Mor and Puranapail. Following an inspection, the RHD instructed the contractor, S. Ananta Bikash Tripura Limited, to take immediate remedial measures.
In accordance with its one-year liability period, the contractor began reconstructing the damaged section last Sunday using fresh stone and bitumen. The company stated that the damage was mainly caused by excessive rainfall, adding that the ongoing repair work would make the road even more durable than before.
A visit to the site showed that repair work is progressing at full pace. Local shopkeepers said that although some of the asphalt surface peeled off following the heavy rain, the ongoing renovation work is expected to reduce public inconvenience. Vehicles are also passing the area safely and slowly by avoiding the repair zones.
Workers from the Roads and Highways Department and the contractor are carrying out the repairs rapidly with the help of heavy machinery and construction materials. Several residents of the Parulia area also expressed positive views regarding the swift repair initiative.
Md. Rajas Khan, Executive Engineer of the Joypurhat Roads and Highways Department, said that parts of the road had been damaged due to heavy rainfall. He added that the contractor had been instructed to undertake immediate repairs and expressed hope that the road would become much more durable and safer once the work is completed.
