Prime Minister attends 'Primary Education Medal' award ceremony

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the Primary Education Award 2026 ceremony at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka on Wednesday morning.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

According to a press release issued by the ministry on 14 July, the competitions were organised as part of the implementation of pledges 17 and 18 of the government's election manifesto to foster children's talent and intellectual development. 

Students from Classes III to V took part in sports, cultural events, subject-based quizzes, Cub Scouting and debate competitions.

The competitions began at the upazila level and were held in phases up to the national level, with the participation of 21,828,693 primary school students across the country.

The best-performing students selected through the different stages will receive the Primary Education Award 2026 at the ceremony.

The event will also honour individuals and institutions for their outstanding contributions to the education sector. Awards will be presented in 15 individual categories, with winners selected from 12,384 nominees, and in two institutional categories, with the best recipients chosen from among 65,546 institutions nationwide.

During the programme, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to inaugurate a nationwide tree plantation campaign at government primary schools.
