The government has proposed a Tk500 crore allocation for the ICT, telecommunication and science and technology sectors in the national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, considering the potential of the sector.
The fund will be used for startup development, women entrepreneurs’ empowerment and youth development.
It also emphasises harnessing the skills, creativity and innovative capacity of the youth population to develop startups, freelancing, content creators and AI-based entrepreneurs.
In addition, steps have been taken to provide 5G services to 90% of the population within the next two years, in collaboration with all mobile operators and other relevant stakeholders.
To make government and private services easier, faster, and more secure, and to establish a cashless digital economy, the “One Citizen, One ID, One Wallet” system and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiatives will also be introduced.
