Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam on Tuesday informed the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that Bangladesh currently has 32.82 crore legally registered SIM cards under four mobile network operators.
The minister disclosed the information while responding to a question during the parliamentary session.
In a written question, reserved-seat lawmaker Nilufar Chowdhury Moni sought information on the number of mobile operators currently operating in the country and the number of valid SIM cards registered under those operators.
In reply, Anam said Bangladesh has four mobile operators: Teletalk Bangladesh Ltd, Grameenphone Ltd, Robi Axiata PLC, and Banglalink Digital Communications Ltd.
He said the four operators collectively account for 32.82 crore valid registered SIM cards nationwide.
The minister provided the figures as part of the government's response on the current status of the country's mobile telecommunications sector.
