The government will not interfere with the independent reports of journalists, in contrast with the authoritarian policies of the Awami League regime, said State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yeaser Khan Choudhury on Friday.
The BNP government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is following the same footsteps of former BNP state leaders, Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia, in taking supportive measures for journalists.
Yeaser Khan made the remarks after inaugurating the office of the Chattogram Metropolitan Journalists’ Union at the Chattogram Press Club.
It is well documented that the ousted Awami League government created numerous obstacles, including threats of violence, to block a report, and hamper professional journalism.
The Awami League also promoted flattery by unprofessional journalists.
But the BNP government is not following any of these steps, nor does it intend to in the future. None can contradict this claim, the state minister added.
However, journalists must take care that misinformation or false information are not published.
