A case has been filed against the father of a classmate of a class-5 student over allegations of rape and resulting pregnancy in Bogura’s Nandigram upazila.
The victim’s mother filed the case as the complainant with Nandigram Police Station yesterday, said Md Tarikul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
According to the case statement, the incident took place on January 13 when the victim went to her friend’s house in search of her. As no one else was present in the house, the friend’s father, 40, allegedly raped her after threatening her and later warned her not to disclose the matter.
The victim did not initially inform her family. Recently, as her physical condition changed, her family questioned her, following which she disclosed the incident.
On May 24, she was taken to a local clinic for an ultrasound, which confirmed that she was four and a half months pregnant, the case statement added.
The family later approached police on June 2 and filed a rape case against the accused, the OC said.
“Raids have been conducted over the past two days in several places across Bogura and Natore to arrest the accused. Since the incident took place a long time ago, the accused appears to have fled sensing legal action,” said OC Tarikul.
