A joint operation conducted by the District Detective Branch (DB) and Jorarganj Police Station has led to the arrest of three active members of an inter-district robbery gang, including a notorious criminal accused in 29 cases across different police stations across the country.
The operation was carried out under the direction of the Superintendent of Police, Chattogram. Acting on confidential information, a skilled team from the District Detective Branch and Jorarganj Police conducted a joint raid in the early hours of May 26, 2026. The suspects were arrested at around 3:30 am from the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in front of Maulana Shafiul Alam Nizami Road at South Sonapahar area under Ward No. 7 of Jorarganj Union.
Among the arrested was Md. Nur Nabi alias Russell (36), son of late Gias Uddin Patowary and Rupban Begum, a resident of West Borodeil under Burirchar Union in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali district. Police said he is an accused in 29 criminal cases filed at different police stations in the country.
The other two arrested were identified as Kalam (28), son of late Md. Rashid from Lognashwar area under Lalmai Police Station in Cumilla district, and Selim (20), son of Kuddus from Charkachia area under Raipur Police Station in Lakshmipur district.
According to police sources, the gang members were preparing to commit robbery on the highway at the time of the raid. During the operation, law enforcement agencies seized two pickup vehicles used by the suspects along with locally made weapons.
Police officials said the prompt action of the law enforcement agencies helped prevent a possible major robbery incident on the highway. A case has been filed against the arrested individuals with Jorarganj Police Station.
