Chattogram Port Inaugurates Booth-Based Gate Pass Issuance System at Five Gates

The Chattogram Port Authority has launched a booth-based gate pass issuance system at five port gates to simplify vehicle entry procedures and enhance operational efficiency at the country’s principal seaport.

The port authority stated that Chattogram Port Authority is a first-class Key Point Installation (KPI) and operates under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. As nearly 92 percent of the country’s import and export activities are conducted through this port, the authority has been continuously implementing automation initiatives to maintain operational efficiency, security, and service quality.

As part of ongoing modernization efforts, a system for issuing gate passes through the Terminal Operating System (TOS) application—based on prior online fee payments—was already in place. However, many drivers and transport workers from remote areas faced difficulties in obtaining gate passes online due to technical limitations. Additionally, vehicles often created congestion near port gates while waiting to obtain passes, which disrupted import-export operations.

To address these challenges, reduce inconvenience for drivers and transport operators, and improve operational flow, the port’s security department decided to introduce direct gate pass issuance through container-based booths at five designated gates.

The system was officially inaugurated on 22 May 2026 at 10:00 AM at the port’s overflow booth in a ceremony presided over by Commodore Ahmed Amin Abdullah, Acting Chairman and Member (Harbour & Marine). Senior officials from various departments of the port and representatives from the transport sector were also present at the event.

Officials expressed hope that the new booth-based system will make the gate pass process more convenient, reduce congestion, and significantly improve overall operational efficiency at the port.
