A madrasa teacher has been arrested in connection with a widely reported rape case in Madan upazila of Netrakona, where a minor victim reportedly became pregnant.
The arrested person, Aman Ullah Sagar, was detained early Wednesday from Gouripur in Mymensingh by a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Law enforcement officials said Sagar is a resident of Pashhat village under Kaitail Union and serves as the director of a local female madrasa.
The Officer-in-Charge of Madan Police Station, Tariqul Islam, confirmed the arrest, adding that legal proceedings are underway.
Police and local sources said the accused established a female Qawmi madrasa around four years ago. The victim, a minor student, reportedly stayed at her maternal grandfather’s house while continuing her studies. Her mother works as a domestic helper in Sylhet after her father left the family.
Following the filing of the case, a video of the victim’s medical examination circulated on social media, sparking widespread criticism and debate. The accused had reportedly been absconding but recently appeared on social media, claiming innocence.
