Authorities have recovered 153 gold bars from the cargo compartment of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
This information was announced in a press release today (29 March).
According to officials, the Dubai-bound flight BG-348 landed at boarding bridge C-02 at around 9:08pm on 28 March 2026. Acting on prior intelligence, the aircraft had been kept under constant surveillance before its arrival.
Following landing, a joint operation was conducted by intelligence agencies and Aviation Security (AvSec) personnel. During the drive, a thorough search of the aircraft’s cargo hold was carried out.
At one stage, officials opened a panel inside a toilet located within the cargo hold with assistance from the airline’s technical team. They then discovered 153 gold bars, carefully concealed and wrapped in white cloth.
Each bar weighs 116 grams, bringing the total weight to 17.784 kilograms. The recovered gold is estimated to be worth approximately Tk38 crore in the current market.
The seized gold bars have been handed over to airport customs authorities in accordance with regulations.
Authorities said an investigation is underway to identify those involved in the smuggling attempt.
