The Gono Bishwabidyalay Journalists’ Association (GBJA) has formed its 13th executive committee for a one-year term, electing The Daily Campus university correspondent Mojahidul Nirob as president and Face the People university correspondent Tahmid Hasan as general secretary.
The new committee was announced on Tuesday (February 3) at the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) conference room of the university during a programme marking the handover of responsibilities and a farewell reception for the outgoing committee.
The 10-member executive committee also includes Md Mahiduzzaman Siam of Manabkantha as joint general secretary, Rajiul Islam Shanto of Khola Kagoj as finance secretary, Mobinul Islam Rasa of Banglabazar Patrika as organising secretary, Sanzida Khanom Urmi of Dainik Sokal as office secretary, Jannatul Ferdous Lamisa of Dhaka Express as cultural and sports secretary, and Rubai Islam Chayon of Desh Deshantor 24 as publicity and publication secretary.
Shariful Islam Rifat of Bangladesher Khobor and Shamim Reza of Dainik Phulki and Insight Dhaka were elected as executive members.
In addition, Maruf Hasan of Campus Report 24, Mohammad Omar of Protidiner Bangladesh, and Shihab Ahsan of Ajker Bangla were selected as general members of the association.
The programme was presided over by outgoing GBJA president Sunjida Jannat Pinky. Treasurer of the university Prof Md Sirajul Islam attended the event as chief guest, while Prof Dr Md Fazlul Karim, student adviser and dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, was present as special guest.
Current and former leaders of GBJA, members of the proctorial body, deans of various faculties, department heads, teachers, students, representatives of the Gono Bishwabidyalay Central Students’ Union (GBCSU), and leaders of different student organisations were also present.
The newly formed committee will represent journalists of Gono Bishwabidyalay for the next year.
