Gono Bishwabidyalay to launch student bus service with reduced fares

Published : Friday, 9 January, 2026 at 3:10 PM  Count : 248

Gono Bishwabidyalay authorities have decided to introduce a student bus service on the Manikganj and Chandra routes after reducing the previously fixed fares to ensure regular and affordable transportation for students.

According to the university administration, bus operations will begin in the first week of February once a minimum of 20 students register for each bus on a route. Students have been invited to complete the registration process within the stipulated timeframe.

The decision was announced in a notice signed by Registrar Engineer Md Wahiduzzaman on Thursday (January 8). The notice said interested students must collect the prescribed registration form from the Transport Section on the ground floor of the administrative building and submit the duly filled form by 3:00pm on January 27.

The revised fare structure for the Manikganj route was also detailed in the notice. The monthly round-trip fare from the campus to Bathuli, Noyadingi and Manikganj has been fixed at Tk 1,320. Students will be required to pay three months' fare in advance for the first time, amounting to Tk 3,960. The monthly fare up to Kalampur has been set at Tk 880, while the fare for Islampur and Dhulibhita has been fixed at Tk 440.

For the Chandra route, the authorities have introduced a two-tier fare system. The monthly round-trip fare from the campus to Baraipara and Chandra has been fixed at Tk 880, while the fare for Baipail, Sreepur, Jirani and Kabirpur has been set at Tk 440. For both routes, students will have to pay three months' fare in advance at the time of registration.

The notice further said that once the required number of registered students is reached, a ticketing system will be introduced for non-registered students in special cases. In such cases, students will have to deposit money at the UCB Bank, Gono Bishwabidyalay branch, and collect advance tickets from the Transport Section. A minimum of 10 tickets must be purchased. The one-way ticket fare has been fixed at Tk 35 for the Manikganj route and Tk 25 for the Chandra route.

The bus schedule was also announced. Buses will depart from Manikganj and Chandra at 8:00am for the campus and leave the campus at 4:00pm for the return journey after classes. However, the return time may be adjusted based on the consent of registered students, the notice said.

The notice also mentioned that students who had previously registered under the earlier fare structure would have their deposited amounts adjusted against the revised fares.

Registrar Engineer Md Wahiduzzaman said the fares were revised considering students' regular transportation needs, adding that the bus service would be operated on a regular basis if sufficient registration is received.
