Four killed as sand-laden truck rams into market in Rajshahi

Four people were killed and one was injured when a sand-laden truck lost control and overturned after crashing into a market in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred at local Jhalmalia Bazar where banana trading was underway.

The identities of the victims could not be confirmed immediately.

Quoting witnesses, Puthia Fire Service officials said the truck veered off the road and hit a group of people who were engaged in banana trading around 7:40am, leaving four people dead on the spot and another injured.

On information, two rescue teams from Puthia and nearby Natore Fire Stations rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies, they added.

The injured was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Bari Munshi, Inspector (investigation) of Puthia Police Station, said the bodies would be sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
