A Dhaka court on Wednesday cancelled the bail of actress Pori Moni and issued an arrest warrant against her in a case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud over alleged assault, vandalism and intimidation.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman passed the order after the plaintiff’s side sought cancellation of her bail.
Pori Moni’s lawyer sought an adjournment, saying she could not appear in court due to an allergy-related illness.
The court rejected the request and ordered the arrest warrant, according to court sources.
The case was scheduled for witness testimony. Pori Moni had previously surrendered before the court and secured bail after an arrest warrant was issued against her in the case.
In 2024, the Police Bureau of Investigation submitted an investigation report finding evidence to support allegations of assault and intimidation against Pori Moni and her costume designer, Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy, also known as Jim.
However, the report found no evidence against another accused, Fatema Tuz Jannat Bonny.
Nasir, president of the Boat Club, filed the case against the three on July 6, 2021, with a Dhaka court.
According to the complaint, the incident took place at the Boat Club in Savar shortly after midnight on June 9, 2021.
Nasir alleged that Pori Moni demanded a bottle of Blue Label whisky to take away without payment.
When he refused, she allegedly abused him and threw a serving glass and her mobile phone at him, injuring his head and chest.
He also alleged that Pori Moni and her associates threatened to beat and kill him and vandalised the club.
