In the wake of rising tensions in the Middle East and the resulting global energy crisis, Bangladesh has sought assistance from the United States to secure its fuel supplies.

Washington has assured Dhaka of its support in safeguarding the country’s energy security.

The discussions took place on Wednesday (1 April) during a high-level meeting at the US Department of Energy in Washington, D.C., where Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman met with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

Details of the meeting were released in a statement by the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington.

During the talks, the foreign minister highlighted the challenges the country is facing in the energy sector due to disruptions in global supply chains, requesting US assistance to ensure uninterrupted energy access.

In response, US Energy Secretary Wright acknowledged Bangladesh’s concerns and reaffirmed the US’s commitment to providing support during these difficult times.

The officials also discussed long-term energy cooperation, including measures to ensure safe and stable fuel supplies for Bangladesh and the potential to increase imports of US energy products.

Senior officials from both countries attended the meeting. On behalf of Bangladesh, the ambassador to the United States and senior embassy officials joined the Foreign Minister in the meeting.
