The Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Shafiqul Alam, has said that the upcoming national election will be held on time, asserting that no force is strong enough to delay it.
He made the remarks on Friday afternoon while speaking to journalists after attending the prize-giving ceremony of the Mind Bridge and Knowledge Competition, organised by the July Konna Foundation at the central auditorium of Noakhali Science and Technology University.
Shafiqul Alam said differences of opinion are normal in a democracy where multiple political parties exist. “When there are political parties, there will be disagreements — one party will say one thing, another will say something else. That is how democracy functions worldwide. But no political heat can prevent the election,” he said.
He added that the Chief Adviser and the Advisory Council will take the final decision on the election schedule, but emphasised that “whatever the decision, the polls will be held before 15 February, most likely in the first half of February.”
“The interim government is firmly committed to holding the election on time — there is no power capable of stopping it,” he stated.
The Press Secretary further said the Chief Adviser would continue to act in the interest of the people, democracy, and all political parties. “The government has already declared the July Charter, and all major parties have signed it. Several commissions have submitted their reports, the economy is being revived, and trial proceedings are progressing,” he added.
He also mentioned that on 18 October, the court is expected to announce the date for the verdict in the trial of Sheikh Hasina. “All pending issues are being dealt with systematically,” he said, noting that the interim government has already completed several major tasks since taking office.
The ceremony was presided over by July Foundation President Jannatun Nayeem Prome, while Vice-Chancellor of Noakhali Science and Technology University Professor Dr Mohammad Ismail and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Ismail Hossain, among others, also spoke at the event.
