
Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid has said that efforts would be made to increase the bed capacity of Comilla Medical College Hospital to 1,000.
He made the remarks while attending the Intern Graduation Ceremony (Cum-29) and Doctors’ Reunion 2026 as the chief guest at the newly constructed auditorium of Comilla Medical College on Saturday, October 10. He also attended the event as president of the Comilla Medical College Hospital Management Committee.
The minister said the government was prioritising the supply of necessary medical equipment to medical colleges. He added that he would discuss the hospital’s equipment requirements with the health minister.
He also stressed the need for proper maintenance of medical equipment to ensure that the equipment remained functional throughout its designated service life.
Urging doctors to provide patient-centred healthcare, the minister said physicians should listen carefully to patients, understand their health problems and offer appropriate advice.
He said environmental pollution and declining food quality posed risks to public health, adding that the government was taking measures to ensure food safety and control harmful pesticides.
He urged doctors to raise public awareness about disease prevention, safe and nutritious food, and healthy lifestyles.
Addressing the newly graduated doctors, the minister called on them to uphold professional ethics and serve people with sincerity, responsibility and compassion.
Comilla Medical College principal Professor Dr. Md Masum Hasan chaired the programme. Comilla City Corporation administrator Md Yusuf Mulla Tipu attended as a special guest. Senior physicians, faculty members and other officials were also present.
