Panchagarh Ready to Welcome Tourists as Season Begins in October

The tourist season in Panchagarh is set to begin in October, with hotels, motels and residential establishments across the district preparing to welcome visitors. Various initiatives are underway to ensure a comfortable stay for tourists.

Every winter, thousands of tourists visit Tetulia to enjoy the blue autumn sky, clear horizon and breathtaking view of Mount Kanchenjunga in neighbouring India. The border town is also known for its lush green tea gardens, Banglabandha Zero Point, Rowshanpur Anondodhara and the century-old Dak Bungalow on the banks of the Mahananda River.

Other attractions in the district include the Rocks Museum at Panchagarh Government College, Mirgarh DC Eco Park, Himalaya Park, Shahi Mosque, Maharaja’s Dighi and the Baro Awliya Mazar in Atwari.

With the tourist season approaching, workers at hotels, motels and residential establishments are busy preparing for the arrival of visitors. Rooms are being cleaned, bed sheets replaced and buildings renovated. Painting and other maintenance work are also underway.

Mohammad Humayun Kabir Ujjal, proprietor of Kather Bari Guest House in Tetulia, said, “We are cleaning and preparing the hotel rooms ahead of the tourist season. We are taking all necessary measures to ensure that tourists can stay in a pleasant environment.”

Kazi Mokhchhed, owner of Swapno Guest House, said, “Every year, thousands of domestic and foreign tourists visit Tetulia to see Kanchenjunga. The lush green tea gardens and the natural beauty of rural Bengal also attract tourists.”

Hazrat Ali, proprietor of Meghkunj Resort, said, “We have newly painted and polished the resort for tourists. We hope to receive more tourists this year than in previous years.”

Food establishments in the area are also preparing for the season, with plans to serve dishes made from fresh local vegetables, along with various types of bhorta and chutney.

Jahangir Alam, proprietor of Tetulia Bhojon Bari Hotel, said, “We are buying fresh local vegetables from the market and preparing meals for tourists. We want visitors to enjoy home-cooked food made with locally produced organic vegetables.”

Azizul, owner of Bangla Hotel, said, “Tourist arrivals were lower last year due to various reasons, causing losses to our business. Hopefully, we will be able to recover some of those losses this year.”

Rana, owner of Jannat Hotel, said, “Tourist arrivals have already started to some extent. We are trying our best to serve fresh and hygienic food.”

Mamun, a tourist from Thakurgaon, said, “Tetulia has a very beautiful environment. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature here. If accommodation and transportation facilities are improved, the interest of tourists will increase further.”

Local teacher Sohrab Ali said, “Alongside ensuring the safety of tourists, it is necessary to maintain a clean environment, improve road communication, reduce traffic congestion and increase government facilities at tourist spots.”

SI Md. Abdul Aziz of the Panchagarh Tourist Police Zone said, “To ensure the overall security of tourists, members of the Panchagarh Tourist Police Zone are performing duties around the clock at tourist destinations in Tetulia, both in uniform and in plain clothes.”

Tetulia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (In-Charge) S.M. Akash said, “The tourist rush in Tetulia begins in October and continues throughout the winter season. During this period, the border town becomes vibrant with the arrival of tourists. Hotels and motels are therefore preparing to welcome visitors. Alongside showcasing the natural beauty, the administration is maintaining strict vigilance to ensure safe, clean and comfortable travel for tourists.”
