Symbolic PhotoA total of 445 people were detained in a special drive conducted in different upazilas of Chattogram district to prevent teen gang culture and maintain law and order. Of them, 354 were teenagers, police said.
Mohammad Rasel, additional superintendent of police, said the drives were conducted from yesterday evening until early today in areas under 17 police stations.
He said 293 teenagers were released into the custody of their guardians after no evidence of criminal involvement was found, following written undertakings from their guardians. Legal action was taken against 61 others after preliminary evidence of their involvement in criminal activities was found.
During the drives, another 91 people were detained for their alleged involvement in drug-related and other offences, and cases were filed against them.
Police advised guardians to monitor their children's movements, friends and use of social media, and keep them away from drugs and criminal activities. Parents were also advised to seek police assistance if necessary.
