State minister for local government, rural development and cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam said on Thursday that Zubaida Rahman, wife of prime minister Tarique Rahman, too, will receive a Family Card, and four crore families across Bangladesh will gradually be brought under the programme.He emphasised that no one will have to pay a bribe to obtain the card.
Shahe Alam made these remarks while addressing a cheque distribution programme for flood-affected people as the chief guest.
The event, organised by the Chattogram Zilla Parishad, was held at the Baharchhara Union Parishad premises in Banshkhali upazila, Chattogram.
‘Tarique Rahman’s government is a government of the people. That is why he has given you some signature projects. One of them is the Family Card. Four crore families will come under the Family Card programme. No one needs to pay a bribe for the card. Everyone will gradually receive it. The prime minister’s wife, Zubaida Rahman, will also receive a Family Card. This is a decision of the BNP government,’ he stated.
Addressing the recent natural disaster, the state minister noted that people had been left helpless after sudden, heavy rains caused severe flooding in the Banshkhali, Chandanaish, and Satkania upazilas.
He acknowledged that the scale of the flooding was unprecedented for local residents, adding that both the district administration and the government made their utmost efforts to stand by those affected.
‘If there were any mistakes in those efforts, I, as a minister, apologise to you on behalf of the government,’ he added.
The programme was attended by Chattogram-12 constituency MP Enamul Haque Enam, Chattogram Zilla Parishad chairman Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, and local BNP leaders, among others.
