An Additional Police Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan (Crime), has been withdrawn after making a controversial remark stating that he would “hang an inspector from a tree and let people beat him to death.”
An order signed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir was issued on Saturday (June 20), directing his withdrawal from the post.
The order stated that Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan has been instructed to hand over his current responsibilities and report to Police Headquarters by June 21.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Police Association expressed concern over the controversial comment, saying that statements made by police personnel and officers should always reflect professionalism, restraint, and institutional values.
In a statement, the association said that during a views-exchange meeting held on June 17 in the Lobonchora area of KMP, the Additional Police Commissioner assured confidentiality regarding information provided by the public to help maintain law and order.
At one point, he reportedly said that if information shared with a police inspector was leaked, he himself would “hang that inspector from a tree” and then have the public “beat him to death.”
The association further said that any public statement should strengthen the dignity, discipline, and public trust of the police force. It noted that despite various challenges in recent years, Bangladesh Police has continued to serve the public with professionalism, patience, and responsibility, making it important to maintain morale, professional security, and mutual respect among members.
According to the statement, the controversial remarks circulating on social media have created mixed reactions among members of the force, with many expressing concern over the sensitivity of the issue.
