Police have arrested a hotel owner accused of beating one of his employees to death with an iron hammer following an argument in Rangpur last night.
Shaon Islam, 26, died after suffering severe head injuries in the attack that took place inside the hotel around 9:30pm yesterday in the Khamar Mor area of the city.
Later, Detective Branch (DB) police arrested the hotel owner, Mizanur Rahman Monu, 32, said Sanatan Chakraborty, deputy commissioner of the DB of Rangpur Metropolitan Police.
A murder case was filed with Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station later that night, he said.
Quoting the suspect's preliminary statement, Sanatan said Monu claimed that Shaon had frequently spat in the dishwashing area and ignored repeated warnings. The dispute escalated last night, following which Monu allegedly attacked him with the hammer.
According to investigators and local residents, people rushed Shaon to Rangpur Medical College Hospital after the attack, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, angry locals detained Monu and allegedly assaulted him before handing him over to police.
DC Sanatan also confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
