Jamaat to discuss Ameer’s X handle ‘hacking incident’ at Bangabhaban today

A delegation from the Jamaat-e-Islami will pay a visit to Bangabhaban, the official residence of President Mohammed Shahabuddin, around 4pm on Tuesday to discuss the use of a presidential email address in the recent “hacking” of the party chief’s X account.

The delegation would also express protest at the alleged hacking incident, party said in a press release.

Sirajul Islam, a member of the party’s central election management committee, would lead the delegation, the release noted.

Previously, in a press conference, Mahmudur Rahman, a member of the party’s central election management committee, alleged that an email of Bangabhaban was used in the “hacking attempt.”

Some messages were sent to multiple senior leaders of Jamaat through the presidential email address, and one was marked “urgent” and contained a file named “Case-Study-Election.accdr.” Upon clicking the file, the X handle got compromised.

Shortly afterwards, a “strongly-worded misogynistic message” was posted on the X handle of Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.

The message drew sharp criticisms of Jamaat, but in reality, it is completely against the personal and political stance of Shafiqur Rahman, party sources have said.

About 45 minutes later, the party managed to recover the X handle, the party claimed.
