Islami Chhatra Shibir candidates secured key leadership positions in the Jagannath University Central Students' Union (JnUCSU) elections, with Riazul Islam elected vice president and Arif Hossain winning the general secretary post.

According to the results of 39 centres announced by the JnUCSU Election Commission, Shibir's Md Riazul Islam secured 5,564 votes to win the vice president post while Chhatra Dal's AKM Rakib got 4,688 votes.

The AGS post was also claimed by the Shibir-backed panel's Masud Rana, who got 5,002 votes, defeating BM Atiqul Tanjil of the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, who secured 3,944 votes.

The election, the first of its kind at Jagannath University in years, has seen high student engagement despite the technical delays that pushed the results announcement into the following day.

Candidates from four panels participated in the polls. These panels include the Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Odhikar Parishad and general students' alliance-backed panel 'Oikyoboddho Nirbhik Jobian'; the Islami Chhatra Shibir-supported panel 'Odommo Jobian Oikya'; the left-leaning alliance-backed panel 'Maulana Bhasani Brigade'; and the Jatiya Chhatra Shakti-supported panel 'Oikyoboddho Jobian'.

In addition to the panel-based candidates, several contestants also took part in the election as independents.
