The schedule for the February general elections will be announced this week, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin told reporters after attending a meeting with Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed and Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud told reporters in separate briefings that the election schedule will be announced on Wednesday evening or the following day.
“We have boarded the ‘election train,’” the CEC told reporters after the meeting with Chief Justice.
The Chief Justice has agreed to extend all possible cooperation to the Election Commission for making the election arrangement smooth, the CEC told reporters.
Syed Refaat Ahmed has agreed to deploy 300 judges to operate as magistrates during the election, after AMM Nasir Uddin sought their poll-time assistance, the CEC said.
The CEC also said that he asked the chief justice to refrain from accepting any writ, which would challenge the current election preparations, after the poll schedule is announced. The chief justice has assured of assistance in this regard, the CEC told reporters.
