Former President of Satkania Municipality BNP and noted philanthropist Haji Rafiqul Alam has extended financial assistance to auto-rickshaw drivers who lost their vehicles in a devastating fire in Satkania’s Bhoalia Para.
On Friday (28 November), after the Jumu’ah prayer, Haji Rafiqul Alam visited the burnt garage site and handed over Tk 10,000 in cash to each affected driver.
The fire broke out around 10 PM on Tuesday at the garage owned by Md. Jafar. Within minutes, the flames engulfed the entire structure, burning at least seven auto-rickshaws to ashes. Local sources estimated the total loss to be around Tk 6–7 lakh.
The victims, who lost their only source of income, expressed relief after receiving support.
We lost everything overnight. This support gives us hope to stand up again,” said one of the affected drivers.
Speaking to the media, Haji Rafiqul Alam said, “Standing beside people in distress is a moral responsibility. Following the directives of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, we are helping the affected families. For now, each victim is receiving Tk 10,000. If more assistance is needed, we will provide it again, InshaAllah.”
More than 200 BNP leaders, activists and local residents were present during the visit.
Local residents urged the authorities to ensure proper electrical safety measures in the area to prevent such incidents in the future.
