Candidates who passed the 47th BCS preliminary examination staged a blockade at the Nilkhet intersection in the capital on Saturday, demanding postponement of the written test.
They began the program around 11pm on Saturday, but left the road by midnight.
The information was confirmed by Ferdous, sub-inspector of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s New Market police station.
Earlier, AKM Mahfuzul Haque, officer-in-charge of New Market police station, told that although the intersection had been blocked, traffic movement remained normal and the Nilkhet–Mirpur Road was open.
Sajib Kumar Pal, one of the protesters, told that they blocked the Nilkhet intersection at around 11pm and, although they initially planned to stay overnight, they would likely remain for only one to two hours.
According to the protesting candidates, it is not possible to complete the written examination syllabus and sit for the test within the 60-day timeframe. They said two types of candidates appear for the BCS examination—those with prior experience in the written test and new candidates who have qualified for the written stage for the first time.
While experienced candidates may be able to prepare within the limited time, new candidates cannot. For this reason, they consider the Public Service Commission’s quick release of the written examination schedule discriminatory.
Earlier, they submitted a memorandum to PSC Chairman Dr Mobasser Monem, presenting their argument for postponing the examination and requesting a “reasonable” timeframe.
