The National Citizen Party (NCP) has temporarily suspended its Joint Member Secretary, Gazi Salauddin Tanvir, following serious allegations of misconduct. The decision was announced on Monday, April 21, through a press release signed by NCP's Office Secretary, Saleh Uddin Sifat.
According to the statement, Tanvir is accused of exerting undue influence in the appointment of a district commissioner and engaging in commission-based dealings concerning paper procurement for the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB). In light of these allegations, the party has issued a show-cause notice demanding a written explanation within seven days as to why he should not be permanently expelled.
Until the investigation concludes, Tanvir has been relieved of all party responsibilities. The suspension order bears the signatures of NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhter Hossain.
Gazi Salauddin Tanvir has been a prominent figure within the NCP, actively participating in party activities. However, these allegations have sparked significant discussion within the party ranks. As of now, Tanvir has not issued any public statement regarding the matter.
The NCP, established on February 28, 2025, emerged from the youth-led movements that played a pivotal role in the July 2024 mass uprising, which led to the fall of the previous government. The party positions itself as a reformist force aiming to establish a 'Second Republic' in Bangladesh, emphasizing democracy, equality, and citizen rights.
This incident marks a significant test for the NCP's commitment to transparency and accountability, principles it has championed since its inception. The party's handling of the situation will likely influence public perception and its credibility moving forward.
Further developments will be monitored as the investigation progresses.
