Mirza Fakhrul Urges Interim Government to Announce Election Roadmap Promptly

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasized the urgent need for a clear and timely electoral roadmap to restore political stability and democratic processes in Bangladesh. He believes that this roadmap should be formulated through dialogue and consensus among political parties.

Speaking to journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday, April 14, upon returning from a medical check-up abroad, Mirza Fakhrul stated, "We have always advocated for building a new Bangladesh through discussion and unity. Undoubtedly, such unity among us is possible, and we will succeed."

He further noted that the delay in elections, which have been shifting from December, should be resolved. With the Election Commission now formed, there is no need for further postponement. He added, "The public expects a clear statement from the Chief Advisor on this matter. Necessary electoral reforms should be completed promptly to facilitate elections. A specific timeline for the election should be determined through discussions with political parties and other stakeholders."

Mirza Fakhrul also mentioned that while the government has formed several commissions for reforms, there is public trust in them. However, he urged for swift completion of these reforms to move towards light through the electoral reform system. Delays will only lead to more controversy and allow enemies of Bangladesh to organize. He warned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina might attempt to create instability in Bangladesh. Therefore, he appealed to the interim government to announce the election roadmap as soon as possible, stating that such an announcement would resolve many debates and build trust.

He expressed hope that the interim government would accelerate discussions with political parties regarding the election and implement necessary reforms to meet the urgent needs of the people.

According to Mirza Fakhrul, essential reforms are only possible through an elected parliament. He emphasized the importance of elections for such reforms, questioning how these reforms would come about without an elected parliament. He asserted that there is no alternative to this process.

The BNP Secretary General's call for the prompt announcement of the election roadmap has sparked new discussions in the country's political arena. His emphasis on timely elections could play a crucial role in restoring political stability and democratic processes in Bangladesh.
